Free training for people who have experience or interest in mental health service improvement

Service User and Carer/family member Capacity Building Training Programme
November, 2017 – February 2018
Sessions 1 – 5 will run from 20th November – 18th December.  All Mondays.  We will inform participants when the final 5 sessions will run, 2018.

*Each session will run from 2.00pm – 5.00pm.  Lunch will be provided at the Trim Family Resource Centre, prior to each session.  Served at 1.15pm

Sessions:

1. Service User involvement, history, context and current status.  
Monday 20th November, 2017, 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Facilitators: Jim Walsh (JW) and Margaret McHugh (MM), Irish Advocacy Network

2. Self advocacy – feeling confident to speak up; competencies and skills for effective communication.
Monday 27th November, 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Facilitators: JW and MM, Irish Advocacy Network

3. Policy context – Vision for Change and other relevant documents (eg; Partnership for Change; Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act, 2015; Mental Health Act, 2001).
Monday 4th December, 2017, 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Facilitators: JW and MM, Irish Advocacy Network

4. HSE structures – functions, responsibilities and commitments
Monday 11th December, 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Facilitators: Local HSE management and JW

5. Partnership building and co-production
Monday 18th December, 2017, 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Facilitators: Co-ordinator, Advancing Recovery in Ireland; Duana McArdle, Area lead, Service User & Carer Engagement; representatives from Louth/Meath Consumer Panel.

6. Formalities of meetings & the committee cycle: – agenda, apologies, minutes, matters arising etc

7.  Responding and reviewing consultation documents; sourcing and using relevant information and knowledge
