Inspired by real stories, Quintessence Theatre use their innovative physical ensemble storytelling techniques to explore the lived experience of children-in-care in Ireland & expose the failures of the Irish Foster care system.
An original play, devised by the company, SOME OF OUR CHILDREN is a compelling, & often comedic, drama that highlights the shortcomings of the care system in Ireland, while also amplifying the voices of some of our State’s most vulnerable citizens.
This gripping production engages with issues at the heart of Irish society, unearthing stories that demand to be told.

Quintessence is made up of 3 core artists: Anthony Kinahan, Leah Rossiter & Fiona Keenan O’Brien.
After a hugely successful 4 years as the inaugural Company-in-Residence at An Táin Arts Centre, Quintessence became Company-in-Residence at Droichead Arts Centre in 2019/2020. We continue to have very solid relationships with these venues; venues in the North East region & indeed venues all around the country having had 4 successful, large-scale national tours – Cracks (2018); The Star of Chester’s Lane (2021); The Curious Case of Albert Cashier (2023) & Jaki McCarrick’s Belfast Girls (2025). We have a repertoire of over 20+ past productions (the vast majority of which are innovative, entertaining, & socially-responsive, new works created collectively through devising).
