Bike Week 2023

Bike Week will take place between Saturday 13th May to Sunday 21st May 2023. The focus of Meath Bike Week is to provide people of all ages and abilities with a variety of cycling events and to create awareness of cycling as a form of transport and physical activity.

Women’s Bike Maintenance Workshop

Meath LSP are delighted once again to offer a Bike Maintenance workshop for Women! This simple M Check Bike Maintenance Workshop could save you time and money if you are planning to take to the roads this summer. The workshop concentrates on gears (front & back), brakes, tyres, puncture repair, headset and cranks. So, if you are a regular cyclist or a social cyclist, this workshop is your basic one stop shop for safe cycling.

Venue: St. Paul’s NS, Navan

Handcycling Taster Session

Meath LSP are delighted to launch a new Handcycling Initiative in County Meath. We are holding a Come ‘n’ Try day for children and adults to test out the new handcycles on Saturday May 20th in Claremont Stadium Navan at 12pm as part of National Bike Week 2023.

One handcycle is upright and suitable for children with the other recumbent handcycle suitable for adults. The handcycles are powered by the arms and will support people with a disability to be more physically active. Participants are asked to register their interest along with family members who wish to support them getting involved in handcycling.

Social Running (0-3k & 3-5k)

Meath LSP are delighted once again to collaborate with local athletic clubs to roll out a 6-week Social Running Programme. These ‘Walk to Jog’ and ‘Jog to Run’ programmes are now available in 6 areas Navan, Trim, Kells, Tara, Enfield and Bettystown. The programmes suit all fitness levels and an ideal way to meet and train socially with others.  Cost €20 for 6-week programme. Socia-Ball (Social Basketball for Women)

Social Basketball for Women continues in Athboy & Ashbourne! With the main emphasis on participation and fun, this is an ideal way for Women 16+ to learn key basketball skills in a relaxed, fun environment without the pressure of competition.

  • Athboy Community Centre – Tuesdays @ 7pm
  • Ashbourne Community School – Wednesdays @ 7pm

Youth Basketball

Social Basketball for Youth is available for young people aged 10-15yrs. This programme is suitable for complete beginners or those who wish engage or re-engage playing basketball in a non-competitive environment.

Youth Basketball programmes will continue in Athboy, Ashbourne and Dunboyne.

Parent & Toddler Swimming (12mths – 3 years)

Meath LSP are collaborating with Swim Ireland to bring a new Parent & Toddler swim programme for parent and children (12mths – 3yrs). The Parent & Toddler Swim programme is a fantastic way for parents to introduce their young children to water in a supportive environment. The coach led initiative will demonstrate a wide variety of techniques to help your child be comfortable in the water and introduce them to an essential life skill.

  • Start Date: Tuesday 23rd May
  • Time: 10am
  • Duration: 6-weeks
  • Cost: €20 for parent & child

School Cricket Programme

Following on from the success of the School Cricket Programme in recent years,  Meath Local Sports Partnership (Meath LSP) are delighted to offer the programme once again to all primary schools in Meath.

Programme includes:

  • Student Coaching for 1 hour per week for 4 weeks by Cricket Leinster coach.
  • Teacher Training at Knockharley Cricket Club (Tuesday 13thJune from 9am – 12pm in Knockharley Cricket Club, Navan)
  • School Blitz Day for all participating schools on Wednesday 21st June from 9.30am – 2.30pm in Knockharley Cricket Club, Navan.
  • Equipment: Provision of cricket equipment to new participating schools

Pop-Up Pool Oldcastle 

Avail of the many classes Swim Ireland have available in the Pop up Pool in Oldcastle. From public swims, aqua aerobics, fun splash to swimming lessons. There’s something suitable for everyone!

Activator Pole Walking

Activator Pole Walking is a FitWalk Ireland Programme which focuses on promoting long term fitness and independence through increasing balance and functionality.

Meath LSP coordinate the programme locally in Meath and skilled tutors teach participants how to safely and effectively use the Activator Poles to aid their walking, strength and balance. The 6-week, 1 hour programme, is suitable to all levels of fitness – each week the tutor will assist participants in use of the activator poles to increase strength and improve mobility.

  • Trim (Porchfields) – Tuesday 9th May at 11am
  • Longwood (Royal Canal Walkway) – Wednesday 10th May at 11am

Introduction to Outdoor Bowls

Meath LSP & Meath Bowls Club invite the older adults of Meath to participate in our Outdoor Bowls recreational league. This is suitable for complete beginners that would like to try bowls but is not limited to beginners. Participants will be coached by experienced players on the techniques and rules of the game.

The Outdoor Bowls course commences on Monday 12th June at 11am for 1.5 hours and will run for four Mondays until 26th June.

Venue: Aura Leisure Centre, Trim

Date: Monday 12th June at 11am

Cost: €20 per person.

Learn 2 Cycle Athboy 

Learn 2 Cycle aims to assist children with a disability aged 5-17 years to cycle independently. This programme which is held over 6 weeks focuses on empowering parents and giving them the tools to support their child in learning to cycle. Participants will be guided by our experienced tutor from the Cycling Safety School.

Date: Thursdays May 25th – June 29th

Time: 4:30pm- 5:30pm

Duration: 6 weeks

Venue: Athboy Convent Community Centre

Cost: €15
