Music Capital Scheme applicant supports starting 23rd January

Music Network in relation to the current round of the Music Capital Scheme, which provides funding for the purchase of musical instruments to individual professional performing musicians and non-professional performing groups.

There are a number of free applicant support sessions available during January and early February 2023. Please see the details below.

 

CHOOSING PROPOSED INSTRUMENTS FOR PURCHASE
Zoom seminar for Organisations, 23rd January, 10.30am

Organisations applying for Award 1 must demonstrate to the assessment panel the need for and suitability of their proposed instruments for purchase. Are you unsure what quality of instruments would best suit the musicians in your organization, whether it’s best to choose expensive instruments or if student models would be more appropriate? Or perhaps you are wondering whether you should apply for the highest amount permittable by the Music Capital Scheme or tailor the request to what your organisation really needs right now? This seminar, delivered by radio presenter and leading community music promoter Evelyn Grant, will help applicants to establish their organisations’ instrument needs and research the most suitable purchase options. STRATEGIC AND ARTISTIC PLANNING

Zoom seminar for Organisations, 24th January, 10.30am

Organisations applying for Award 1 must provide details of the overall artistic plans and policies of the organisation. Do you need some help to clarify what your organisation is about, where you are right now and where you want to get to? Do you wish to create a roadmap for future growth and unlock new opportunities? This seminar, delivered by arts management consultant Ciara Higgins, will equip organisations with the tools to identify their artistic mission, vision and values and develop a Strategic Plan. CREATING YOUR GOVERNANCE DOCUMENT

Zoom Seminar for Organisations, 25th January, 10.30am

Organisations applying for Award 1 must supply details of the organisation’s structure and governance, with reference to the group’s constitution or governing document. Do you need to create a governance document, or refresh your existing document? Would you like more clarity on how to define the roles and responsibilities of your members, or require advice on which legal structure will best serve your purpose? This seminar, delivered by leading governance consultant Sheila Cahill, will guide organisations through the process of creating a clear and useful governance document. Book your free place here.

CREATION OF RECORDINGS
Zoom seminar for Organisations, 26th January, 10.30am

Organisations applying for Award 1 must submit recordings to support their application. You don’t have to be an expert to create good quality recordings. Would you like to receive user-friendly tips on getting the best out of your mobile phone, how to test recording levels and convert and upload files? This seminar, delivered by prominent sound engineer Mairéad O’Reilly, will provide a step-by-step guide to creating good quality recordings which show your organisation in its best light and clearly relate to your proposed instruments for purchase. Musicians applying for Awards 2 or 3 must submit recordings of their artistic activities. Are you unsure which types of recordings will best benefit your application? Would you like to avoid common pitfalls and receive tips on using pre-existing recordings or starting afresh with your application in mind? This seminar, delivered by prominent sound engineer Mairéad O’Reilly, will provide a step-by-step guide to presenting good quality recordings which are the best possible representation of your work and clearly relate to your proposed instrument for purchase. WRITING AND PRESENTATION SKILLS
One-to-one Zoom/phone sessions for Individuals and Organisations

Selection criteria for Music Capital Scheme applications require applicants to demonstrate clearly and concisely their artistic activities to date, plans for future development and need for the proposed instrument(s) for purchase. Would you like to receive guidance on how to write clearly and persuasively, and how to present your achievements and musical goals with the selection criteria in mind? To support applicants in presenting themselves in the best light, one-to-one sessions are available with leading arts manager Liz Powell. These sessions will suit applicants for all awards who have already begun to prepare their application; participants are encouraged to bring their draft applications to the sessions.

*Please note, one-to-one sessions are limited and priority will go to first time and previously unsuccessful applicants. Attending a support session is not a guarantee of funding.
