Meath Heritage Cycle Tour

There’s still time to register for the Meath Heritage Cycle Tour!

The Sport Ireland Meath Heritage Cycle tour returns for its 10th year on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th July! Ambassadors for 2018 are Saoirse McGrath (Meath Rose 2018) & Cillian O’Sullivan (Meath footballer).

The 11km Family Spin takes place at 5pm on Saturday 28th which is a really enjoyable event for all ages (all children must be able to cycle independently and must be over 6yrs of age). Entries ONLY on the day from 2pm. Entries €5 per person.

The 50km & 100km distances take place on Sunday 29th. Early Bird offer is open until Thursday 19th July at 12 midnight online. Anyone wishing to register by post should ensure that their early bird entry is received on this day. If you are part of a cycling club – we are offering 1 free place with every 5 places booked (that would be 5 + 1); this offers applies to cycling clubs only or registered cycling groups (must be registered with cycling Ireland).

The nominated charity this year is Enable Ireland Meath. Enable Ireland provides Early Services in Meath for children with disabilities. The services provided include: clinical assessment, therapy, education, training and family support. These are vital services promoting personal development of children with disabilities, which enables independence, choice and inclusion.  Enable Ireland teams work with the individual and their family on a plan for each life stage. Spectators and cyclists alike are asked to support this worthy charity over the weekend of the cycle tour.

This year’s much awaited Meath Heritage Cycle tour jersey has been unveiled. The jersey design celebrates the rich heritage of Meath and our 10 years of cycling in Meath. The vibrancy encapsulated in the luminous yellow spectacularly energises the watermelon red consistent throughout the jersey.  As part of the tradition of past years, the jersey promotes one of Meath’s iconic and very popular tourism sites – St John’s Castle in Trim. All cyclists registering for the 50k & 100k distances will receive the jersey as part of the entry fee. Take a look at http://www.meathsports.ie/jersey-unveiled/

Don’t forget to avail of the early bird discount closing on the 19th July. Registration will close on the 26th of July. See http://www.meathsports.ie/cycle-tour/how-to-enter/ to register.

Volunteers required for the Meath Heritage Cycle Tour

Calling all Volunteers! Are you free on Sunday 29th July?

We are looking for volunteers to help out in the following areas: Dunsany, Seneschalstown, Brownestown, Bellinter Cross, Hayestown, Navan and Trim. Volunteers will ‘man’ junctions, give directions, provide refreshments and most of all give much needed encouragement to cyclists along the route.

This event is a fabulous opportunity to showcase the county of Meath in all its finery, so why not come out along the route and cheer on the cyclists. To volunteer or for more information please call Ruairi on 046-9067337 or email rmurphy@meathcoco.ie
