The Central Statistics Office (CSO) would like to advise you that, as part of the preparatory work for Census 2027, a public consultation on the content of the census form will open today Wednesday 30 November and will close on Wednesday 21 December.

For the first time, an online response option is being planned alongside the paper-based option in Census 2027. We are inviting members of the public, interest groups and organisations to make submissions on the topics to be covered and on the resulting outputs. For reference, the 2022 census form is available here.

Full details of the public consultation, including how to make a submission, are available on the CSO website – https://www.cso.ie/en/census/census2027consultation/

When making a submission, we ask that you provide your detailed reason(s) and suggested wording for your proposed new/changed question(s), and a summary (where relevant) of the corresponding analyses required.  We ask that you do so for each proposed new/changed question.

You may wish to focus your submission with reference to the following broad categories:

  • Housing and housing characteristics
  • Population characteristics including migration
  • Diversity and equality (including citizenship, ethnic group/background, other languages)
  • The Irish language
  • Disability, health, carers
  • Transport
  • Education
  • Economic factors
  • Other

Should you have any queries on the consultation, please contact  census2027consultation@cso.ie

We look forward to hearing from you.
