The Town Centre First policy was published by the Government in February 2022 to “to create town centres that function as viable, vibrant and attractive locations for people to live, work and visit, while also functioning as the service, social, cultural and recreational hub for the local community.”

Enfield was one of the towns selected for funding under the first phase of the National Town Centre First Plan Initiative in 2021. The Town Centre First plan will shape a vision for the future of Enfield town centre and will focus on the delivery of regeneration projects.

Launching the consultation process, Cathaoirleach of the Trim Municipal District Cllr Joe Fox said that “’I am very pleased that Enfield has been given this opportunity. Great progress has been made to bring improvements to the town and through this new plan we can sustain momentum and build upon that success in the years to come.”

The Town Centre First Plan will be a non-statutory vision for Enfield that will help fulfil the objectives of the Meath County Development Plan 2021-2027. It will be used to attract funding and investment into the town and complement and develop the findings of the Enfield Integrated Community Plan completed in 2020.

Production of the plan will be led by consultancy The Paul Hogarth Company. Director James Hennessey remarked that “We are delighted to be working in Enfield and look forward to working with local people, groups and businesses to understand the needs of the town and to develop an exciting plan for its future.”

The initial consultation process will be open from 13th July to 24th August 2022 with an on-line survey (here).
