SOSAD Ireland provides free counselling for those in our community who are experiencing mental health crises, who are suicidal, or who are experiencing suicide bereavement or loss. This support is particularly important in these challenging times.
We have also recently launched an Online Messaging Service to provide text support to people who may prefer to text rather than speak when in crisis.
Young people in particular prefer the anonymity of text, but we are finding many older people are equally comfortable with the format. All our volunteers are Garda Vetted and fully trained in active listening techniques, suicide intervention and child protection. Clients can avail of a listening service, but can also be signposted to other agencies, to counselling or given supportive resources.
The service is accessible from the SOSAD Ireland website (www.sosadireland.ie) between the hours of 8pm and Midnight, 7 days a week.
As the service continues to grow in volunteer strength we hope to begin extending those hours with an ultimate goal of operating 24hours a day like our phone line.
