Check Clean Dry: protect water bodies from invasive species

Are you aware that invasive species and pathogens can be introduced into Ireland and spread unknowingly between waterbodies on your boat, fishing gear, equipment, footwear and clothing?
Don’t panic! You can help protect the environment and water activity you love by following the Check Clean Dry biosecurity campaign.
Keep in mind these simple steps:
CHECK your equipment, boat, and clothing after leaving the water for mud, aquatic animals, or plant material. Remove anything you find and leave it at the waterbody.
CLEAN everything thoroughly as soon as you can. Pay particular attention to areas that are damp or hard to inspect. Use hot water if possible.
DRY all equipment and clothing for at least 48 hours before using again – some species can live for many days or weeks in moist conditions.
DISINFECT everything if complete drying is not possible before entering a different waterbody. Items difficult to soak can be sprayed or wiped down with disinfectant.
