Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) 2026: closing date 24th July
The LEAF Fund is a national initiative supporting community-led environmental and climate action projects. With over €3 million in funding across all local authority areas, the programme empowers communities to work together to improve their local environment.
Funding of €1,000 to €25,000 available for community environmental projects across County Meath.
Are you part of a Tidy Towns group, Residents’ Association, Men’s Shed, Community Group or other voluntary organisation working to improve your local area?
The Local Environment Action Fund (LEAF) supports community-led projects that enhance biodiversity, tackle climate change and improve the local environment.
Applications are now open and close at 4pm on Friday 24 July 2026. Funding of between €1,000 and €25,000 is available.
Can My Group Apply?
Your group can apply if:
- You are registered with your local Public Participation Network (PPN)
- You are a community-based voluntary group such as:
- Tidy Towns
- Residents’ Associations
- Community Development Groups
- Men’s Sheds
- Environmental Groups
- Other voluntary groups involved in improving their local area
- You can show collaboration with at least one other community stakeholder such as a school, sports club, youth group or community organisation (or explain why this is not possible).
What Projects Can Be Funded?
Example projects include:
- Tree planting and community orchards
- Pollinator-friendly planting and biodiversity projects
- Wildflower meadows and habitat creation
- Sustainable travel initiatives
- Community recycling and waste reduction programmes
- Water conservation projects
- Environmental awareness campaigns and training
- Climate resilience and flood mitigation initiatives
- Renewable energy projects for community facilities
Funding Available
Minimum grant: €1,000 Maximum grant: €25,000 Successful groups will be required to provide evidence of expenditure and receipts. Funding will be paid by Meath County Council following submission and verification of the required documentation.
