EirGrid is the national government agency which develops, manages, and operates Ireland’s electricity grid. EirGrid will be establishing the East Meath North Dublin Grid Upgrade Community Benefit Fund in recognition of the importance of working closely with communities in the completion of the East Meath North Dublin Grid Upgrade. This project is a high-capacity 400 kV underground electricity cable between the Woodland substation, near Batterstown in Co Meath, to Belcamp substation, near Clonshaugh in north Dublin. This upgrade will strengthen the electricity grid in the east of Meath and the north of Dublin to improve the transfer of power across the existing transmission network.

More information on the project can be found on EirGrid’s website here.

The East Meath North Dublin Grid Upgrade Community Benefit Fund will provide €3,478,800 in grants to local community groups, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises that operate or service communities within 2km of this new electricity infrastructure, to deliver projects that will create positive social and environmental impacts. The overall aim of the fund will be to increase public and environmental wellbeing in the community and to leave a positive legacy.

The Fund will distribute €3,478,800 in grants to community groups, not-for-profit organisations, and social enterprises within 2km of the new infrastructure, supporting projects with positive social and environmental outcomes.

The funding will be delivered in 3 phases. The first phase of funding is €1,391,520 and will be equally distributed under the following 3 streams to projects which align with these streams;
