Each quarter we bring you news of our work in the area of community and disability. Our work centres on empowerment, participation engagement and collective action, and it continues to expand and strengthen. As a federation, our 123 member organisations provide supports and services to thousands of persons with lived experience of disability every day in the community.

In this edition we are focusing on the local elections which take place on Friday 7 June. We are highlighting why it’s important to vote and why disability votes count! We also highlight the importance of access and inclusion at all stages of the electoral process, as highlighted in our cartoon above and in our local elections video – the first in a new series of videos.

We also outline the work we are doing with Fingal County Council to support organisations in the county to set up and deliver their own hustings with election candidates over the coming months.

We have an update on our project on Local Implementation of the UN CRPD

We invite you to Save the Date of Friday 27 September for Make Way Day 2024.

We mark the publication of Martin Naughton’s Memoir ‘Never Know Your Place’.

We also have some Good News Stories on how our communities are becoming more accessible and inclusive including a new multi-sport club in Fingal, the Fun For All initiative in Buncrana, a new Changing Places facility in Athlone, Clonakilty Access Group’s call to cut back trees and hedges and an inclusive playground in Kilcloon, Co Meath
