Open Water Teaching and Coaching Courses 2026 

Now is the perfect time to secure your place on one of Swim Ireland’s Open Water teaching and coaching courses designed to prepare you to deliver open water programmes.

Whether you’re developing new skills, refreshing your current practice, or taking the next step in your aquatics career, our 2026 Open Water courses will equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience to deliver safe, engaging, and effective open water programmes.

Bike Week Funding Applications – Now Open 

Bike Week will take place from the 9th – 17th May 2025.

Meath LSP in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (on behalf of the Department of Transport) are calling for submissions from cycling clubs/groups, agencies & schools to apply for funding support under this year’s Bike Week initiative. 

Those wishing to organise a cycling activity during National Bike Week can apply for funding support – Maximum funding available per application is €500. Funding is provided for events targeting families; leisure cyclist/clubs/groups or cycle spins for specific age groups, abilities etc. 

Closing date for applications is Friday 27th March at 4pm.

Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness in Child Protection Workshop

30th April | 6.30pm-9:30pm | Zoom

This workshop will highlight the measures that clubs can take to create and maintain the safest possible environment in sport for young people. This course is essential for anyone who is in contact with children in their club.

Safeguarding 2 Club Children’s Officer Workshop

2nd April & 14th May | 6.30pm-9:30pm | Zoom

Every club involved with children and young people should appoint a Club Children’s Officer. They act as the link between the children and the adults in the club. It is essential that those who wish to attend have completed Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness training.

Safeguarding 3 Designated Liaison Persons Workshop

28th May | 6.30pm-9:30pm | Zoom

Every club/organisation should have a designated Liaison Person to be responsible for dealing with any concerns about the protection of children. The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions of child abuse o TULSA Child and Family Agency and/or An Garda Siochana. It is recommended that this person is a senior club person.  

It is essential that those who wish to attend the Safeguarding 3 Designated Liaison Person (DLP) Training have attended the Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness training.

Run Jump Throw 

The Run Jump Throw programme delivered over 6 weeks is aimed at children with additional needs aged 5-12 years. The sessions will include a variety of Sports, Fun Games and Obstacle Challenges all adapted to the participants needs. 

The programme aims to improve the participants fundamental movement skills and increase their confidence in participating in regular physical activity. The involvement of siblings is encouraged during the programme.

Social Tag Rugby 

Leinster Rugby & North Meath RFC are collaborating to bring to you a Women’s Social Tag Rugby programme, suitable for women of all ages (18+) and fitness levels – this programme is ideal for complete beginners and those with previous rugby experience. 

Non competitive, relaxed and fun, this new 6-week programme is a great way to gain fitness and learn a new skill without the rough and tumble of regular rugby. After the 6-week programme is completed, A Fun & Friendly Tag Blitz with participating clubs will take place.

0-3k & 3-5k Programmes 

Meath LSP are once again delighted to partner with athletic clubs in Navan, Kells, Tara & Trim for the roll out of the 0-3k & 3-5k programme. The 0-3k (Walk to Jog) is suitable for complete beginners and supports those to go from walking to jogging with relative ease and is suitable for people of all ages (18+) and fitness levels. The 3-5k (Jog – Run) is ideal for those who like to improve running fitness and increase their pace & distance. 

Date: Monday’s (2nd March – 6th April)

Women’s Social Cycle on the Greenway

Come and join us for a social cycle on the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway to celebrate Women in Sport Week. Starting in Park Beo Greenway Hub in Wilkinstown, the first part will bring us to Nobber with the choice of then continuing to whitewood lake in kilmainhamwood. This a fabulous opportunity to cycle along the scenic surroundings of the greenway in a relaxed and comfortable environment led by qualified Bike ride leaders. Finishing with a coffee and chat back at Park Beo. All participants receive a puncture repair kit.

Social Soccer for Women (16+)

Rossin Rovers AFC are hosting a Come & Try Social Soccer for Women taking place in Rossin Rovers FC soccer pitch on Saturday 7th March at 10am. Rossin Rovers are providing this programme to women and girls from 16 yrs+ and is ideally suited to complete beginners or those returning to the sport.

Come & Try Badminton in Oldcastle 

Badminton Ireland and Meath LSP are delighted to support Oldcastle Badminton Club to provide a Come & Try Badminton taster session for complete beginners & improvers in Oldcastle starting Wednesday 4th March at 7pm. Badminton is a great sport and an ideal way to gain fitness and play socially. this programme is led by qualified Badminton Ireland Coaches. Places are limited; early booking is advised.

Come & Try Social Basketball Ashbourne  

Social Basketball for Women 18+ is open in Ashbourne Community School on Wednesday 4th March 7pm. The programme emphasizes on participants and fun where participants could learn key basketball skills and play in a supportive environment without the pressure of competition. All programmes are aimed towards complete beginners and those with previous experience and is delivered by qualified coaches.

Come & Try Pitch & Putt – Women (18+)

Oldcastle Pitch & Putt Club are hosting a special Taster Afternoon for women aged 18 and over who are interested in giving this fun and accessible sport go.

Pitch & Putt is a versatile and enjoyable game played on a shorter course than traditional golf, making it ideal for beginners as well as those looking to improve their short game skills. Its a fantastic way to get outdoors, stay active and meet new people in a relaxed and friendly environment. 

Whether you’ve never held a club before or you just want to brush up on your skills, this session is the perfect opportunity to learn the basics, get some tips from experienced players, and see what the club has to offer. All abilities are welcome – come along, give it a try, and enjoy a great afternoon of sport and socialising.
