Launch of “My Preschool Day” Booklet Promoting Inclusive Preschool Education for Traveller Children in County Meath

A new educational booklet, My Preschool Day, has been officially launched to support and promote inclusive preschool education for Traveller children across County Meath.
Developed with a strong focus on inclusion, representation, and early learning, My Preschool Day is designed to help Traveller children and their families become familiar with the preschool environment, routines, and expectations, supporting a positive and confident transition into early years education.
This important publication is the result of a collaborative project between Meath Travellers Workshop and Crann Support, bringing together expertise in Traveller advocacy and early childhood education. The project was developed by Caitriona McDonagh, Traveller Family Link Worker with Meath Travellers Workshop, and Megan Sharpe, Preschool Liaison Worker attached to Crann Support.
Speaking about the project, Caitriona McDonagh highlighted the importance of culturally inclusive resources, noting that My Preschool Day reflects the lived experiences of Traveller families and supports meaningful engagement with early years services. Megan Sharpe added that the booklet is a practical tool for both families and preschool providers, helping to build understanding, trust, and positive relationships from the very start of a child’s educational journey.
The booklet aims to:
- Promote inclusive and welcoming preschool environments
- Support Traveller children in understanding daily preschool routines
- Encourage engagement between Traveller families and early years services
- Strengthen collaboration between families, preschools, and support services
My Preschool Day represents a positive step towards equality of access and participation in early childhood education for Traveller children in County Meath and reflects a shared commitment to inclusion, respect, and early learning success.
