EIRGRID Kildare Meath Upgrade: Community Benefit Fund – Share Your Views

As part of the EirGrid Kildare Meath Grid Upgrade, a Community Benefit Fund of €4,610,000 has been established to support local community groups, not-for-profit organisations, and social enterprises operating within 2km of the new electricity infrastructure. The aim is to deliver projects that create positive social and environmental impacts across the region.
M-CO, who are administering the Fund, are inviting local community and voluntary groups, individuals, and stakeholders to take part in a consultation process to explore the needs and priorities of the area — helping ensure the Fund is designed for the local community, by the local community.
We would greatly appreciate participation in a community consultation survey, particularly with any groups operating within the area of benefit. This can be done by sharing the attached flyer via local social media channels, by emailing the details to your Residents Association or school Parent’s Council, or by sharing them with members of your club.

If you wish to speak to members of the EirGrid Public Engagement team about the Kildare Meath Grid Upgrade project, they will be visiting the following communities in Kildare in January:
- 27th Jan (Morning) – Naas Main Street
- 27th Jan (Afternoon) – Monread Shopping Centre , Naas
- 28th Jan – Clane Main Street
More information on these community visits is available here:
For anyone requiring additional support, they are welcome to contact a member of the Fund Administration Team in M-CO at communitybenefitfund@mco.ie.
The Kildare-Meath Grid Upgrade will help meet growing energy demand in the region due to increased economic development and population growth. The project will add a high-capacity 400 kV underground electricity connection between Dunstown substation in Kildare and Woodland substation in Meath.
Planning permission was granted by An Coimisiún Pleanála (formerly An Bord Pleanála) in March 2025.
More information on the Kildare-Meath Upgrade can be found on the project website
