HER Outdoors 2025 returns from 11th – 17th August

HER Outdoors week aims to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for females to get involved in outdoor physical activity.

This week is all about providing more opportunities for ALL females to escape to the outdoors and try something new. Meath LSP are hosting a variety of events for girls and women of all ages and abilities. Click HERE to book or see events with spaces below. 

Come and Try Orienteering

Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport, which involves navigating to a series of checkpoints using a traditional map or app on your mobile. This event will be delivered by Orienteering Ireland and is a great opportunity to get out and try a new sport. Suitable for families and young people. No experience required!

Date: Tuesday 12th August

Time: 1pm

Location: Spire of Lloyd Kells

HER Moves Beach Event

Calling all teenage girls 11yrs+ to come & try a variety of beach and sea sports to celebrate HER Outdoors Week. 

HER Outdoors Beach Day to include: Beach Volleyball, Handball, Hockey and Sea Kayaking in Bettystown beach on Tuesday 12th August at 10.30 – 1.30pm. No previous experience required.

Come & Try Trail Running

St. Brigid’s AC in conjunction with Meath LSP are delighted to host an Introduction to Trail Running on Sunday 17th August at 10am in Mullaghmeen Forest, as part of our HER Outdoors Week. 

Trail running is outdoor running on forest trails, hills and natural surfaces with a connection to nature providing physical and mental benefits like improved strength, balance and mood. The trail runs available on the day are distanced from 1.5k to 5k and are suitable for anyone who can comfortably run 2 or 3k.

Sea Swim for Women 18+ & Teen girls 13-17 years

Sunday 17th August on Bettystown Beach!

Learn about safety in open water, how to prepare for pre and post swim, what times to swim, currents, tides etc. Introduction to breathing and swimming techniques.

She Tries Rugby

Meath LSP are delighted to support Leinster Rugby and Ashbourne RFC in hosting a new ‘She Tries Rugby’ for teenage girls 13-17yrs. 

Suitable for complete beginners and improvers with no previous experience required. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to try a new sport or re-engage in the sport of rugby with the main emphasis on fun and fitness in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Participation is free of charge but registration is essential.

Venue: Ashbourne RFC

Dates: Wednesday 20th August – 10th September

Youth Social Basketball returns to Kells!

Social Basketball is open to young people aged 10-17yrs. No experience necessary. Join in with other young people and have some fun and learn some basketball skills along the way.

Date: Tuesday 19th August  

Time: 6pm

Venue: Kells Youthreach Centre, O’Growney Terrace, Kells  

Cost: €10 for 6 weeks

Social Basketball for Women 

Date: Tuesday 19th August

Time: 7pm 

Venue: Kells Youthreach Centre, O’Growney Terrace, Kells. 

Learn basketball skills in a fun and social setting, without the pressure of competition. No previous experience required, suitable for all fitness levels. This is an ideal opportunity to try a new sport or revisit a sport that you previously enjoyed. Cost €20 for 6 weeks.

Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness in Child Protection Workshop

9th September, 6.30pm-9.30pm, Zoom 

This workshop will highlight the measures that clubs can take to create and maintain the safest possible environment for sport for young people. This course is essential for anyone who is in contact with children in their club.

Safeguarding 2 Club Children’s Officer Workshop

18th September | 6.30pm-9.30pm | Zoom 

Every club involved with children and young people should appoint a Club Children’s Officer. They act as the link between the children and the adults in the club. It is essential that those who wish to attend have completed Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness Training.

Safeguarding 3 Designated Liaison Person (DLP) Workshop

23rd October | 6.30pm-9.30pm | Zoom

Every club/organisation should designate a person to be responsible for dealing with any concerns about the protection of children. The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions of child abuse to TUSLA Child and Family Agency and/or An Garda Siochána. It is recommended that this person is a senior club person. 

It is essential that those who wish to attend the Safeguarding 3 Designated Liaison Person (DLP) Training have attended the Safeguarding 1 Child Welfare & Protection Workshop.

Sports Injuries First Aid Workshop

30th September | 6.30pm-10pm | MDL, Trim Road, Navan

This Sports Injuries First Aid Course is aimed at coaches, mentors, teachers, supervisors, players, athletes and volunteers or anyone wishing to be able to deal with minor sports injuries. 

This course covers a comprehensive range of topics to prepare participants to administer First Aid care. Participants will learn practical skills so that they can deal competently with situations that may arise. On successful completion of the course, participants are issued with a First Aid Certificate of attendance.

Social Pétanque

Pétanque is an adapted version of Boules which can be played on a variety of outdoor surfaces. This fun social game requires no experience and is suitable for varying abilities.

Join in with a group near you and try something new this August!

  • Bettystown Beach– Wednesday mornings at 11am
  • Blackwater Park, Navan – Tuesday Mornings at 11am 
  • Dunboyne Park – Thursday Mornings at 11am

Learn 2 Cycle Dunboyne

Learn 2 Cycle aims to assist children with additional needs to cycle independently. This programme which is held over 6 weeks outdoors focuses on empowering parents and giving them the tools to support their child in learning to cycle.

Participants will be guided by our experienced tutor from the Cycling Safety School.

Date: Thursdays July 31st – September 4th

Time: 3:30pm- 4:30pm 

Duration: 6 weeks

Venue: Dunboyne Community Centre

Cost: €15

Inclusive Teenage Summer Camps

Inclusive Multi- Sport Summer Camps suitable for teens aged 13-17 years with Additional Needs. The camps will take place outdoors over two days and will see a variety of sports and activities take place.  We encourage participants’ siblings to join in the activities also. All parents will be asked to remain for the duration of each day.

Date: Tuesday August 12th – Wednesday August 13th

Time: 11am- 1pm

Venue: Meath & District League Grounds Navan

Cost: €10 per family
