ICCL is delighted to host a panel discussion event on Wednesday 11 June: Democracy Under Attack: Can Ireland Resist the Global Decline? where we will consider the resilience of Irish democracy against the backdrop of rising authoritarianism in Europe and beyond.

Our panel of speakers will explore global trends and discuss the risks, potential challenges and emerging vulnerabilities for Ireland. They will consider questions including:
- What is the playbook for undermining democracy in neighbouring countries and what are the current risks for Ireland
- What role do Big Tech actors and mis- and disinformation play in sowing division, distorting political campaigns and undermining trust in democratic institutions?
- How resilient is Irish democracy? Where are the emerging fault lines and what steps can we take to strengthen democratic institutions and norms?
- How can we engage Irish citizens more effectively to avoid alienation and apathy?
