Communication from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment:

I wish to advise you that the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment has today issued an invitation to community, voluntary and not-for-profit organisation to apply for a grant to provide citizens with basic digital skills training under his Department’s new Digital Skills for Citizens Grant Scheme.

The Scheme replaces the BenefIT Scheme and aims to provide citizens who have never used the internet with the confidence, motivation and skills to reap the benefits of today’s digital world.

The Department envisages that annually 25,000 to 30,000 citizens will be supported to move online through the delivery of digital literacy training in numerous locations dispersed across all Counties.

Established organisations working in the community, voluntary and not-for-profit sector can apply for grant funding as individual entities. Equally, organisations can collaborate and work together to submit an application, in which case one organisation will act as the designated Lead Organisation.

I would appreciate it if could promote this initiative across your respective networks to ensure that organisations are made aware of the opportunity. In this connection, I attach the Statement of Requirements and Application Form relating to the Grant Scheme.

Full details relating to the Scheme can be found at www.dccae.gov.ie. Should you require any clarification, please email gettingcitizensonline@dccae.gov.ie or contact Caroline Henry by phone at (01)678 2566.
